Null Hypothesis
Null Hypothesis' "Big Professor"
Null Hypothesis was formed in 2004 by three University of Bristol postgraduate students, looking for light relief from the grind of publishing papers in academia. Null Hypothesis, the Journal of Unlikely Science, is a satirical science website which aims to promote science as a fun, wide-ranging, interesting subject, providing readers with a range of humorous and fascinating content, allied with related merchandise.
The three behind the satirical magazine, David Hall, Andrew Impey and Mark Steer received assistance in the early days from BUBA, Bristol University Business Angels, a student run company with up to £30,000 worth of financial support from the University of Bristol. BUBA identified great potential in the business and helped with facilitating business practice in a series of brainstorming sessions and strategy games, enabling the Null team to present an award-winning business plan, resulting in widespread distribution across retailers nationally.
The website has now developed into a portal for science-lovers to access information, entertainment, employment opportunities, merchandise and a similarly-minded community. Null Hypothesis was the runner-up in the national Entrepreneur of the Year competition in 2005 and has been described by the Daily Telegraph as the Private Eye of science!
